The Revd Canon Dr Richard Cooke

Rector of Ilmington, Stretton-on-Fosse, Preston-on-Stour

I was born and grew up in Kent, where my Christian faith was nurtured in a little village church tucked under the North Downs, and went to work in a Church in Coventry City Centre after university.

I trained in Bristol and was ordained deacon in Coventry Cathedral in 1988, and spent 16 years in parishes in Rugby and on the outer edges of Coventry. I joined the Coventry Diocesan Staff in 2004, delivering training for both clergy and lay people and have taught at the Queen’s Foundation in Birmingham.

In 2009 I published the SCM Core Text New Testament, which was described in the Church Times as ‘dare one say it, even fun!’ I left the post of Director of Ministry for Coventry Diocese at the end of 2021 and have returned to rural ministry as Rector of a group of parishes south of Stratford-upon-Avon.

On a day off you’ll usually find me with grandchildren, walking our young Labrador, or watching some cricket.
